Questions and Answers?
February 2006

In Matthew, Jesus asked his disciples. "Who do you say I am?". To us that may seem like an easy question. One which could be answered in an instance, but our lives, our hearts and our minds betray the truth of our ability to deliver an answer.

What does that mean? Our ability to say for certain who Jesus is, is tempered by our experience, our hopes and our fears.

Many questions come to mind particularly at this time when the future of the church does not seem entirely certain.

We are asking where we are going? Where does God want to take us? Our lives must be a reflection of God's love for us and sometimes we are slow to see where the Lord has brought us from. We therefore question where he is taking us. The questions we sometime ask although laced with doubt and uncertainty must be reinforced by perspective, reality and truth.

This month we hope to look at some questions which we Christians regularly ask, and hopefully we can explore the issues which arise when asking them. It is good to ask questions since it brings about a challenge to what exactly we believe, but equally we must be ready and open to accept the challenge and sometimes the lack of comfort the answer may bring.

Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God". Jesus replied, "Blessed are you Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven."

The answer Peter received was from the Father in heaven. Let us be open to receive the answers for our questions from God, but have the humility to ask the correct ones.

Matthew 16:13-17

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?"

14 They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."

15 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"

16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

17 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven."

Quote

Trying to do the Lord's work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work.

But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.
